“Boxed In” was born after a chaotic experience at Dunkin Donuts on my way into the city where my life was threatened by a stranger over an incredibly trivial thing. The woman who threatened my life was on edge and it was clear to see that she was not okay within. It’s no secret that the city of Philadelphia is riddled with violence and pain. People don’t know what to do with the heaviness they experience and so their pain and anger is projected to those around them. This piece is a representation of that. Of feeling boxed in. Of chaos hidden in the spaces around me and a feeling of never knowing what’s around the corner. I am grateful for the haven of expression and refuge that art continues to be for me; both in actuality and emotionally.
